Thoughtless Thursday

If i lived in an old farm house, this would be my dining room.
And, this would be my kitchen...

Baby it's Cold Outside

This was the view out my back deck as i let the dog out this morning. The sky was a gorgeous blend of yellows and pinks. Beautiful i tell ya, beautiful. The snow and icicles not so much. I have to say, it's warmer than yesterday. Yesterday morn when i awoke the windchill was -31. Yes, my friends, that has the capability to freeze certain body parts right off. Literally. Keep yer mittens handy, it ain't spring yet!!!Posted by Picasa

A Good Yarn

A new year, a new yarn! A while ago i was ranting about a new Japanese crochet book. Well, i did end up ordering it and absolutely fell head-over-heels in love with this blanket. Love, love, love the colors!!! i wanted to keep this one really soft and fluffy so i chose Caron yarn. i would like to have more choices, but where i live you have to drive at least 50 miles one way to the yarn shop. so, i chose what was in town. which is fine, i really prefer to buy local when i can. it's just that sometimes you are quite limited.

So, being on my budget of sorts, i couldn't purchase all the yarn at once. these lovelies are the chosen few to begin with. And i'm off.....

Think Pink

Usually for Valentines Day i decorate my hutch in reds. But this year i thought to go softer. Pink i decided, yes, pink. I commenced to scour the house for anything pink. I searched high and low, inside cupboards and out, up high and down low. Dear friends, i am at quite a loss for pink. I did find the box of dishes i had purchased at an auction last summer. They are quite beautiful, and all the pieces are there down to the gravy boat and serving bowls. Not bad for $17.

Here is the marking on back. I am not into china at all, other than just thinking how pretty certain pieces are. I have never heard of Canonsburg, PA before. Now i will need to dig the atlas out and see where it is. Anyway, i'm sure it is quite a popular pattern and not worth millions or anything. however, if it is worth millions (or even one million), would someone be kind enough to let me know as i just paid college tuition for my son yesterday! In the mean time, i will continue to wrack my brain over the pink hutch decorating thing...Posted by Picasa

Frugal Goodness

I've started off the year trying my hardest to be frugal. Not that i wasn't before; quiting one's full-time job does put a damper on a few things!

This morning i thought about going to our Farm Show here in town. I thought about wandering thru the neat rows of booths visiting with the people i know behind the tables. Then my mind wondered to lunch....they always have the best food there. You know the kind, wonderful home-made sandwiches and salads. Usually pies. Ice Cream. SNAP. Back to reality. Yes, i will still go to the Farm Show this afternoon, after all, when something different is going on in a small town, one must simply take advantage. But, no, i will not eat lunch there. Instead i made egg salad. Now, i can just here some of you...EGG SALAD you say? Yes, egg salad. I like egg salad. In fact, there are very few things i do not like. I eat sauerkraut, smoked salmon, even homemade eggnog. Raw eggs don't faze me (i know i heard you gasp, but i haven't died yet). In fact, i can only think of two things right off-hand that i dislike. are you ready? drum roll: Celery and Caviar. So, what do you dislike? please let me know!

For now, i'm going to hop on over to the Farm show. After all, i have some quarters in my pocket and i believe there may be some ice cream calling my name.....

January Blues...

I received this poem thru email, and thought it was so cute i would share it with all of you! T'was the month after Christmas,
and all through the house,
nothing would fit me,
not even a blouse.
The cookies i'd nibbled,
the chocolate i'd taste
at the holiday parties
had gone to my waist.
When i got on the scales
there arose such a number!
When i walked to the store
(less a walk than a lumber),
i'd remember the marvelous meals i'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
the wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
and the way i'd never said, "No thank you, please."
As i dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
and prepared once again to do battle with dirt...
i said to myself, as i only can,
"you can't spend the winter disguised as a man!"
So, away went the last of the sour cream dip.
got rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.
every last bit of food that i like must be banished
till all the additional ounces have vanished.
i won't have a cookie, not even a lick.
i'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
i won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie.
i'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I'm hungry, i'm lonesome, and life is a bore...
but isn't that what January is for???
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all, and to all a good diet!
